Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks. One of two foundation pits, in the area of a temporary kitchen construction, revealed part of a stone block structure which could have been a boundary or garden feature. Underpinning pits and the bulk excavation of material in the area of the proposed Queens Gallery Plant Room did not reveal any significant archaeological features or finds. Most of the ground removed appeared to have been backfill and make-up deposits relating to the construction of the adjacent cellar and buildings of the Palace. No evidence was found of a Bowling Green that was known to have been constructed on the site in the 17th century. [Au(abr)] |
