Abstract: |
The site lay to the south of the theoretical line of the medieval town defences. Three large medieval pits were observed, containing large numbers of Nottingham light-bodied green-glazed vessels, and coarse orange sandy ware cooking pots. A possible ash pit and kiln were also located, with an abundance of pottery and kiln furniture. The overall date range for the site was thought to be from 1200 to around 1325 AD. The quality and quantity of material found at Western Street marked it out as a valuable site for the understanding of medieval pottery production in Nottingham. [Au(abr)] |
