Abstract:		 An archaeological watching brief took place on the site of a conservatory extension to an existing house. The site lay just to the north of a Roman cremation cemetery that was discovered in 1892. The area also had some potential for prehistoric remains, although it was outside the later settlement and was not built on until the 20th century. A few 19th 0r 20th century potsherds and fragments of ceramic building material were noted within the soil profile, reflecting the previous cultivation of the site as well as the more recent housing development. There were no other remains with the exception of the base of a locally produced Roman coarseware pedestal jar or beaker. This was found residually in the post-medieval soil, and may have been transported some distance by agricultural activity. The underlying natural deposits were superficially disturbed by root action but otherwise quite sterile. [Au(abr)]
