Abstract: |
A fluxgate gradiometer survey, covering c.2.5ha, was carried out at the site of the proposed 'Phase 3' extension to Finningley Quarry. Linear anomalies, probably caused by ploughed out field boundaries, field drains or agricultural practice were identified. A broad linear trench, of a probable natural origin, was also detected. A number of areas of magnetic enhancement, predominantly located in the northern part of the survey area, were also noted. These anomalies could have been caused by discrete archaeological features but given the absence of probable linear archaeological features it was thought that a natural origin for these anomalies was more likely.
