Abstract: |
A total of sixteen trenches were observed. The garden soil was cut by a series of pits. One contained numerous fragments of clay tiles, perhaps from the demolition of a predecessor to the Whitehall Public house, another may have been a lime pit associated with the building of new structures. A date in the late 18th or the first quarter of the 19th century was likely. A brick well also dated to this period. A wall built of Purbeck stone ran along the northern edge of the site. [Au(abr)] |
