Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken on a site proposed for development in an area suggested as the site of the Roman fort which was thought to have been established at Buxton towards the end of the 1st century AD. A number of trenches were excavated across anomalies, identified by a geophysical survey of the site in 1979,revealing that these were of geological origin. No trace of the Roman fort was identified and it was suggested that it was unlikely that the fort was situated within the proposal area, possibly being situated further to the north. [Au(adp)] |
