Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a stone filled feature that may have been a post hole for a riverside structure cut into a water eroded subsoil and was probably medieval in date. A layer of water worn stones were likely to have been river laid at the edge of this eroded subsoil A deliberate dump of stones and mortar overlying the subsoil and rolled stones was considered to have been deposited in the post-medieval period. In the first half of the 18th century, a dump of pottery waste and kiln debris was evenly spread over the stone dump, possibly as a process of raising the level of the river bank. [Au(abr)] |
