Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assesmsment was undertaken prior to the determination of planning permission for the proposed residential development of the site. The site appeared to lie over a number of separate older properties ranging from domestic houses of the late-17th century to possible light industrial units of the 9th century. The report concluded that the proposed works would involve the removal of post-medieval building remains and deposits which may have survived beneath the present open yard. It recommended that further archaeological evaluation work would be necessay to determine the exact nature and depth of such deposits, and that this evaluation could take place at the same time as future geotechnical investigations.
