Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the potential impact of a proposed housing development on the site of the Territorial Army Headquarters in Newport was undertaken. The site was located immediately adjacent to the Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM 21) known as the Newport Earthworks which formed an earthen bank and ditch boundary to the Newport suburb of Lincoln. Roman and medieval buildings had also previously been recorded elsewhere in the vicinity and it was suggested that the highest potential for undisturbed archaeological remains lay at the front (east) of the buidling, where Roman and medieval buildings may have fronted onto Newport.
