Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief during the excavation of foundation trenches for three extensions to the rear of numbers 7-11 Albert Street revealed a pit, containing two sherds of medieval pottery, which had been partially cut by a large ditch, backfilled largely with clean gravel. The pit may have been related to the suspected medieval suburb of Hawton Gate, whilst the location of the ditch and its relationship with the medieval pit suggested that the ditch was a Civil War defence in use from 1642-3. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
