Abstract: |
The site area itself did not contain any Listed Buildings or SAMs. There was, however, a SAM (Conduit House) located a short distance to the north-west of the proposed development site. Although there was a small degree of potential for encountering remains from the prehistoric, Roman and Saxon periods, it was not until the medieval period that there was an indication that significant remains could have been present upon the proposed development site. The primary potential for archaeologically significant remains lay within the proximity of the site to Conduit House, and the associated possibility that the medieval conduit system (comprised of pipes for the conveyance of water) may have extended across the proposed development site. A significant degree of truncation was expected to have occurred to potential archaeological deposits upon the site due to previous subterranean structures dating from the post-medieval and modern eras and World War II bomb damage.
