Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the groundworks associated with the development across the site in order to fulfil a condition upon planning permission. This phase of work was able to demonstrate that the land to the south of the site had been raised by about 1.5m, rather than the site having been truncated, as had previously thought. It was also possible to confirm that the construction of several brick buildings during the 19th century had badly disturbed the eastern side of the site. One of these buildings included a cellar. Service trenches from the 19th century buildings, had further disturbed any possible earlier archaeology. Despite the high level of disturbance, the base of at least one probable medieval rubbish pit and several post holes of unknown date were revealed. [Au(adp)] |
