Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during works undertaken to combat the effects of rising damp within the wall of a church tower. The fabric of the church, which lay 200m from the earthworks of a Norman castle, contained elements of Norman date. The present building may have been constructed over the site of an earlier Saxon church. During the watching brief, 19th-20th century artefacts were noted, and evidence of construction or restoration work, possibly of 17th century date, was observed. No evidence of a Saxon or medieval phase of church construction or of graves was found. [Au(adp)] |
