Abstract: |
A survey of buildings was undertaken to assess the archaeological implication of proposed repairs and alterations to the former Manor House and associated buildings. The Kilby Field buildings comprised a house and two open-sided barns. The house was originally constructed in the late medieval period, with alteration in the post-medieval period and again in the late 18th or 19th century. It was probably a 'hall-house' referred to by Throsby in the late 18th century and was probably a manor house, perhaps later a parsonage house, but by the 19th century had become a farmhouse with a barn. Another barn had been constructed more recently. Nearby earthworks represented the remains of an earlier manorial complex. [Au(abr)] |
