Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the site of a disused walled garden, part of which was proposed for the construction of a manege. Earthworks representing a possible shrunken medieval village lay nearby, and a possible post-medieval trackway bordered one edge of the site. During the evaluation, part of a 12th-13th century ditch was revealed; this may have been a field or property boundary. Four undated features and a 17th or 18th century feature, possibly the result of horticultural activity, were recorded. 12th or 13th century pottery was recovered. It was concluded that the site had probably lain outside the medieval village, but within its associated field system. [Au(adp)] |
