Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of housing development. Within some 250-sq. m of undisturbed soil, evidence emerged for a roundhouse and associated ditch with a terminus marking a possible entrance facing NNE. Inside the house there were pits of uncertain function. Most features produced pottery dating to the Middle Iron Age. Evidence had also survived of a boundary ditch that ran parallel to Crowland Road and may have represented the limit of the built-up area in post-medieval times. Sequences of levelling and disturbance associated with quarrying in modern times were observed in the southern portion of the site. [Au(abr)] |
