Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken along the proposed route of the Seal Branch Trunk Sewer Replacement Project. During topsoil stripping operations, two previously unknown prehistoric burnt mounds were revealed. Subsequent archaeological excavation of one of the mounds revealed apparently two phases of activity and a series of structures and cut features associated with the earlier phase of the mound, the contents of which afforded the preservation of environmental data, which should have provided dating and other evidence concerning its nature, usage and possibly later abandonment.
