Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of an anomalous feature identifed during a gradiometer survey. The anomaly was located and identified as a substantial pit situated over most of the trench. The feature was observed to have cut through the natural sandstone and clay and was composed of one clay fill with modern inclusions. It was believed that the pit may have represented a backfilled clay pit associated with the pottery kilns in and around Wrenthorpe. No other archaeological features were observed. [Au] |
