Abstract: |
There were a number of recorded sites of either prehistoric or Romano-British date within the study area. The villages along the route were probably Anglian or Scandinavian in origin, continuing through the medieval period. The surrounding open fields were gradually enclosed during the 16th-18th centuries and while some settlements reduced in size, Bridlington expanded into a small town. On the basis of the results of the assessment, a walkover inspection for the entire route and a programme of archaeological monitoring and geophysical survey was recommended. [Au(abr)] |
