Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation of four trial trenches was undertaken across the site prior to proposed development of the site. Trench 1 (15m by 3m) in the north-west of the site, revealed a series of stratified deposits. The majority of the features and layers were associated with 20th century industrial workings that truncated and disturbed a buried soil horizon indicative of a fairly open field environment which in turn overlay alluvial deposits above the natural River Terrace Gravels. In trench 2 (15m by 3m), located to the south of trench 1, a sequence similar to that in trench 1 was revealed. No significant archaeological deposits were found in trenches 3 and 4 (10m by 3m and 6m by 3m). [Au(adp)] |
