Abstract: |
The site and surrounding study area contained no Scheduled Monuments or parks and gardens of special historic interest. The site lay on land reclaimed from the inter-tidal muds in the middle of the 19th century. Two archaeological entries were recorded within the site and consisted of evidence for the first buildings on the dock frontage and the probable site of the Admiralty Gallows. Within the wider study area the archaeological entries were also of post-medieval date, the site of a windmill (of possible medieval origin), possible 19th century burials, and the Central Railway Station were also recorded.[Au(abr)] |
