Abstract: |
A desktop assessment of the proposed site of a daycare centre at a hospital was undertaken. A small number of Mesolithic to early medieval artefacts, a Bronze Age burial and an early medieval cemetery had been recorded in the surrounding area. The area covered by Guildford Park and by the development site had been a Royal Park in the 12th century, and 14th century building remains had been found at the site of a later church. Two 16th-17th century manors had lain in the vicinity. It was concluded that the site had only a low archaeological potential, and that 19th century disturbance would have severely damaged any remains present. [AIP] |
