Abstract: |
Monitoring of contractors works in the tower base of the church revealed an area of consolidated flint, clay and mortar, as well as a section of footing for the west wall of the tower. The interpretation of the feature was problematic, largely due to its irregular shape. It was clear that the footing of the west side of the present tower was flush with the internal face of the wall. It seemed likely therefore, that the irregular surface was a footing for a pre-14th century phase of the church's nave or tower. [Au(adp)] |
