Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a detached garage and an extension to a dwelling. Chance finds in the surrounding area indicated that it had been settled since at least the Mesolithic, whilst finds of dugout boats from Washingborough and nearby Fiskerton indicated that the river and flood plain had been used for transport since at least the Bronze Age. The present village of Washingborough could be traced back to the Domesday Survey of 1086. During the watching brief, a field boundary ditch containing recent fill deposits was recorded. Its line could be traced on current OS maps.. [AIP] |
