Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was undertaken in advance of a building extension. One trench was excavated in the area where an earlier evaluation had shown that archaeological deposits had survived. The excavation revealed evidence of a large medieval feature which greatly exceeded the extent of the excavation area. This feature, which may have been a pond, was allowed to silt-up. Medieval stone foundations were found on top of these silty fills. Excavation also revealed a post-medieval floor surface and levelling layers, and an 18th century brick wall. [Au(abr)] |
