Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was carried out of the proposed development site. It was located within an Area of Archaeological Significance as defined by Kingston Unitary Development Plan and contained one Listed Building, but no SAMs. A review of documentary, geological, archival and cartographic sources had indicated that the potential for archaeological activity in the area was high for the prehistoric period, moderate to high for the Roman period and that post-medieval activity would be encountered. However, an archaeological evaluation revealed little in the way of archaeological remains besides some post-medieval activity relating to Fairviews House built in the late 19th century and to machinery used for gravel extraction. On the basis of the evaluation findings, AOC recommended that no further archaeological would be carried out on the site. [Au(abr)] |
