Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks at a development site, where trial trenches excavated in 1988 had revealed a beam slot and several pits dating from the 11th and early 12th centuries. A church which may have had medieval origins lay 100m to the north-east. During the watching brief, Victorian cellars and a soakaway with two culverts were recorded. The infilled remains of the inspection pits of a tram depot which had been destroyed by bombing during WWII were also observed. [AIP] |
