Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the former site of an army barracks, proposed for redevelopment as a business park, was undertaken. Isolated prehistoric finds, a Bronze Age barrow and a deserted medieval village had been recorded in the general surrounding area, but only one archaeological site had been recorded in the near vicinity. This was a dump of post-medieval pottery, including kiln wasters, which had probably been associated with a 17th century kiln. It was concluded that the site had some potential for further pottery kilns, but that tree roots and the former military land use could have damaged any archaeological remains. [AIP] |
