Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during ground investigations for a proposed relocation of a pipeline to the south-west of Creswell Crags, a Palaeolithic occupation site, within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A modern drainage gully was noted, and deposits thought to relate to a former mill pond, drained in the late 19th century, were observed. No artefacts were recovered. It was concluded that a watching brief should be maintained during groundworks, owing to the location of the site, and that further environmental samples should be taken from the area of the former pond.
