Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during the excavation of geotechnical trial trenches. The trial trenches were required to provide information on the ground conditions in advance of the proposed redevelopment of part of the site. The watching brief involved the observation of ground works in order that any exposed archaeological remains were recorded. During the course of monitoring the ground works evidence was discovered for deposits relating to the silting up of the millponds that were marked on 19th century maps and plans of the site. Evidence for a roughly built sandstone bank and wall were also uncovered, which were thought to mark the boundaries of the millponds. [Au(adp)] |
