Abstract: |
A fluxgate gradiometer survey carried out as part of an archaeological assessment of the site. The survey identified significant magnetic variation across the site, which could be resolved into a series of magnetic anomalies. Most of these anomalies were interpreted as representing the rubble remains of buildings and an associated access track. Traces of medieval ridge and furrow ploughing were detected. A number of anomalies possibly reflected the presence of sub-surface archaeological features of greater significance, such as enclosures, although these had proved difficult to resolve due to the masking effects of modern activity.
