Abstract: |
<summary>Combe Gibbet Long Barrow, a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Berkshire 12001), has been the site of a gibbet since 1676, although a number of replacements have subsequently taken the place of the original post. Following the destruction of the most recent replica by vandals a replacement was proposed. Observation during works to replace the gibbet revealed that the post pit had, for the most part, been cut through earlier post pits. Of the five pits recorded, three contained modern debris. In two places deposits were recorded which may have constituted part of the long barrow mound. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
