Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken within an area proposed for an extension to the Wiltshire Grain facility at Rollestone (Shrewton). Seven machine-excavated trenches were opened, including four designed to examine elements of a possible field system, a rectilinear enclosure and a possible ring ditch, all of which were visible as features on aerial photographs. Archaeological features relating to the enclosure were found in the form of ditches, and finds of Bronze Age date were recovered from them. Although no features were seen within the interior of the enclosure four pits or post holes were recorded to the south. The supposed ring ditch and field system ditch were not visible as subsoil features. [Au(abr)] |
