Abstract: |
All the trenches contained finds or features of medieval date. The footing of a wall was located in the middle of the site and one possible interpretation was that it was the friary precinct boundary. There was evidence for two buttresses abutting this feature. A number of layers and features were recorded containing pottery of an earlier date than the friary. This could indicate 12th-early 13th century activity outside the city defences. A soil layer, probably contemporary with the friary survived over most of the site, and sporadic features of this date occurred either side of the wall mentioned above. A number of deposits, probably dating from the dissolution, were recorded, all of which lay south of the possible boundary wall. [Au(abr)] |
