Abstract: |
The assessment identified that no evidence of early activity had been found within the proposed development site, although evidence of prehistoric, Roman and early industrial activity had been recorded in the general vicinity, perhaps suggesting some limited potential for such activity within the proposal area. The site had been partially disturbed by relatively recent industrial activity, mainly associated with coal extraction. Most notably, a mineral railway had been cut through the centre of the area in the late 19th century. Late 18th century cartographic evidence recorded no buildings or activity within the proposal site, and no buildings had been recorded on the Sheffield Road at Birdwell until after 1850. [Au(abr)] |
