Abstract: |
A fluxgate gradiometer survey, covering c.3 ha, was carried out at the site of a proposed residential development. A number of positive linear anomalies and areas of magnetic enhancement that could have been caused by infilled archaeological features were identified. However, a modern origin was considered likely for the majority of the anomalies. A positive linear anomaly, that corresponded with a linear crop mark, was detected and it seemed probable that there was a sub-surface cut feature in this location. The variable Coal Measures geology meant that it was possible that there were sub-surface features present that were not detectable, or were only partly detectable, by gradiometer survey. [Au(abr)] |
