Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the stripping of soil within a disused walled garden which lay near the possible remains of a shrunken medieval village. An earlier evaluation at the site had revealed a medieval ditch, several undated features and 12th-13th century pottery. During the watching brief, further undated features were observed, and a medieval or earlier ditch containing worked and burnt flints, 13th/14th century material and 15th/16th century material was recorded. The ditch appeared to follow the same alignment as the existing north-south garden wall, and may have represented an earlier field or property boundary. It was concluded that medieval and later activity of no more than local significance had been recorded at the site. [AIP] |
