Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	A very rapid observation of an inspection pit excavated by an electricity contractor to find a fault in a line, was carried out. Although most of the pit had been excavated through a cable trench backfill, it was observed that a soil profile survived, cut by the cable trench. This soil was predominantly a garden soil.
