Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, comprising documentary research, trial trenching and augering was carried out within the grounds of Bedford College. With one exception, archaeological remains were identified and recorded in all the interventions. Analysis of the artefacts recovered from the excavations and the results of the documentary research suggested that the majority of the deposits dated to the late medieval period (13th-15th centuries). They appeared to be associated with domestic and light industrial use of properties which took advantage of a dual frontage on the Great River Ouse and on St. Mary's Street. [Au(abr)] |
