Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of footings for new houses on land located within the core of the medieval village. Features of 18th to 19th century date including refuse pits, a trackway, and hollows were identified and it was presumed that later land use had obliterated any earlier deposits. However, two fragments of worked masonry of relatively early date were recovered , both possibly originally having been derived from nearby Thornton Abbey and reused in a later structure here.
