Abstract: |
A geoarchaeological survey on the redevelopment of the site into a small town, assessed the relationship of the flints recovered during previous assessment and the geological strata. Prehistoric remains are scarce in Ashford and so the finding of so many prehistoric flints of Palaeolithic to Neolithic date was important. 70% of flints came from a fresh undisturbed source. A buried landscape of possible Palaeolithic date was found and had a high content of archaeological matter of Upper Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Iron Age and early Roman date as well as palaeoenvironmental potential.
