Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, comprising the excavation of 18 trial trenches, was undertaken in response to a Section 106 legal agreement for permission for an extension to the existing quarry. One sub-oval shallow pit containing three sherds of heavily abraded Iron Age pottery was recorded. Although an earlier geophysical survey and fieldwalking had suggested the presence of significant archaeology within Phases 2 and 3, it appeared that a combination of post-medieval quarry activity and possible truncation by ploughing had left no significant remains.
