Abstract: |
Two trenches, 4.2m and 14m by 1.75m, were excavated in the area of the car park on the north-eastern side of the college in advance of the proposed erection of a part single, part two storey building. No archaeological deposits or finds were present. Natural clay with gravel and sand lenses were found beneath the concrete slab and a modern make-up dump. At the top of the natural deposit roots of trees were present, the only visable remains of the vegetation marking the site as part of Morden Park, prior to its redevelopment into Merton College in the 1970's.
