Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site of the former Magistrates Court and Police Station. Two ditches in the south side of the site, and aligned at right-angles to the Ridgeway, contained pottery of 13th-15th century date, as well as some later material, and probably represented boundary ditches associated with properties on the Ridgeway. Further residual medieval pottery was found with a group of 18th to 20th century features on the Ridgeway frontage which were probably associated with buildings on the site prior to the construction of the Court House and Police Station.
