Abstract: |
Building recording was undertaken during the construction of an aisle on the north side of a church. Four phases of church construction were proposed, the earliest consisting of a length of ragstone footings which may have represented a church pre-dating the 14th century nave. Further evidence of an earlier structure, possibly of 12th century date, was also noted. In the 14th century, a two-celled church comprising a nave and chancel was constructed. The chancel was altered in the 15th century, and extensive restoration of the church occurred in the Victorian period. Finds recovered during the survey comprised 58 pieces of late medieval window mouldings, which had been re-used as hardcore in the vestry floor. [Au(adp)] |
