Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation of 25 30m by 1.8m trial trenches, was undertaken on the proposed quarry extension site. The evaluation revealed a scatter of archaeological features to the south and the north-west of the proposed development site; pits, post holes and ditches were located. In general, the paucity of artefacts meant that most features were undated. However, a pit and post hole in the south-east of the field produced pottery and flint tools of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date, including Beaker decorated wares; one other pit in the south was possibly of similar date. Part of the enclosure ditch of a cropmark feature was probably located on the west edge of the site, somewhat south of its plotted position. It yielded no datable finds. [Au(abr)] |
