Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a few features of probable Late Iron Age date in the south-eastern corner of the site. The vast majority of archaeological features and deposits were of early Romano-British date, demonstrating three areas of activity extending back from the High Street. A small number of medieval features remained intact. A substantial degree of post-medieval and modern activity was likely to have erased further medieval, and possibly Romano-British activity, whilst impinging on the underlying early Romano-British and earlier deposits.
