Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundations for a canopy within Marlborough House, which was originally constructed in the early 18th century. Previous archaeological work at the site of this building and the adjacent St James's Palace had revealed parts of a 17th century friary. During the watching brief, a pit containing a fragment of Roman or medieval ragstone was found. Several presumably post-medieval pits, at least one brick building and a Victorian culvert were also recorded. [AIP] |
