Abstract:
A watching brief was undertaken on the corner of St. Johns Street and Market Street during excavation works for pile caps and service trenches. This area lies within the presumed precinct of the Saxon minster and may have been subject to medieval encroachment. Evidence was found for 16th century deposits and late 17th or early 18th century buildings which may have burnt down.[AIP]
