Abstract: |
A desk-based study of the archaeological implication of the construction of a stormwater outfall pipe on land at the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Course, identified that finds of Iron Age/Roman date had been recovered in the vicinity, that there were historical references implying siegeworks around Sandown Castle and that twelve post-medieval wrecks were known at or near Sandown Castle. Earthworks were also identified in a large part of the proposed working area, partly representing 1940's defensive works but with possible older features. [Au(adp)] |
